Vedic Cosmology

‘We have subjective faculties hidden in us which correspond to all the tiers and strata of the objective cosmic system and these form for us so many planes of our possible existence… For as the Gods have built the series of the Cosmic worlds, even so they labor to build up the same series of ordered states and ascending degrees in man’s consciousness from the mortal condition to the crowning immortality.’  Sri Aurobindo, Hymns to the Mystic Fire – p. 25

Nataraja, the Lord of Dance, symbolizing the entire drama of the cosmos

“As above, so below”…says the Rishi, the universe is made up of an endless series of analogies, homologies, and symmetries. They manifest first as Cosmic and Planetary harmonies before reaching a highly specific individuation in the human domain. The element which links these planes of consciousness in a harmonic continuum is the cyclical nature of Time. But due to his off-center egoic poise, man is overwhelmed by the illusion of linear time and cannot perceive his intrinsic connection with the cosmos. In order to recover an awareness of his cosmic nature and become a vivid embodiment of that perfection, he must first discover within himself a new axis of being.

In ancient India as in all other traditional societies the forging of this new axis or ‘center’ was most easily achieved through the application of a cosmological model which illuminated certain essential relationships between man and the universe. In this manner, the seeker was able to recover an alignment of the cosmic and human time scales. As he lived and repeated these cycles of whole time he became imprinted with their harmonies and began to unveil within himself a new center or ‘soul’ from which he could recognize the wholeness of creation. By observing the cycles of his own microcosmic process, he came to know the macrocosm and the principles of its evolution. In the Veda, this realization was known as SWAR or Truth-Consciousness, and granted the seeker a direct and unequivocal perception of Unity.

In ancient times these cosmological models were based upon the known universe which was believed to consist of six planets and a central Sun. It was not until the 20th century, following the discovery of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, that the complete cosmological key could be revealed and man’s integral transformation fully understood. The Gnostic Circle is that key and contains the highest wisdom of our age. In the following links we will introduce the Gnostic Circle, the Map of the 12 Manifestations and other occult systems of correspondence which the seeker may use to realize a direct experience of the Supreme within the physical manifestation.

Supramental
Cosmology

  •  The Gnostic Circle
Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet’s realizations concerning the nature of Time are based upon a direct experience of an objective order which she has extended into a cosmological framework known as ‘The Gnostic Circle’. When its principles are applied in the life of the individual, it reveals the organic process by which the soul or seed of the divine in each individual is made to flower.

  •  The Map of the 12 Manifestations
The “Map of the Manifestations” holds the key to understanding the developmental scheme of history and the organization of ancient and modern civilizations. In her Supramental Cosmology, Ms. Norelli-Bachelet reveals the parallels between the life of the Cosmos and that of the Individual by showing the Time Spirit as the guiding force behind them both.

  •  The Precession of the Equinoxes
The Precession of the Equinoxes is the mechanism which determines Earth’s movement through the Ages. To the Seer, it reveals where we are in the great cycle of evolution and defines the achievements which may be expected during any given age.

Cosmology and the Vedic Myths

A commentator once wrote that, “…nothing in all mythology is more difficult than the attempt to get a clear view of the gods of Vedic India”. For centuries they seem to have eluded all attempts at scholarly classification. With Sri Aurobindo’s commentaries however, we discover that the Vedic gods and goddesses represent deep Psychological conceptions as well as the Powers and Personalities of the Supreme Godhead. Yet even more complex is their embodiment of profound cosmological concepts which have become all but lost to modern scholars. In this excerpt from The New WayVol 1 & 2, Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet discusses some of the Prophetic and Cosmic symbolism contained in the Shiva Purana.

‘The “Churning of the Milky Ocean” myth is concerned primarily with establishing the central role of the ‘Axis’ in creation. For this is the essential meaning of the myth; it is the birth of that which moves, and hence of Time as it evolves in our material universe from the seed of itself. The classic Churning myth tells the tale of that axial alignment and its profound Cosmogonic significance. Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet discusses the relevance of the Churning Myth to the chaos of post modern civilization.
